HOW TO JOIN US

Step 1:

If you have already purchased a 'Skill for Life' pack then come along to our next Sunday meeting (dates here) with all of your paperwork and sit in on our introduction to advanced driving to commence your course.

If you are unsure as to whether this is for you, then come along to our next Sunday meeting (dates here) and sit in on our introduction to advanced driving, without any obligation to join. The introduction will cover what advanced driving is all about and include a FREE demonstration by one of our members to wet your appetite.

If you would like to talk to someone prior to visiting the Group then please call
(07020) 940216 or e-mail us.

Step 2:

If you have not yet purchased a 'Skill for Life' pack, then you must first do so in order to become an Associate Member of the Group. You can purchase the pack 'Online' or at one of our meetings. (Further Information Here).

If you have already purchased a 'Skill for Life' pack then there is nothing more to pay and you can start straight away.

Step 3:

You will now be provided with our 'Advanced Driving Course' and a list of observers who will give FREE 1-2-1 advice and guidance during your preparation for the Advanced Test.

You will then go out with an observer on pre-arranged dates in your own vehicle on what we call 'Observed Drives', each drive lasting between 45 - 90 minutes. The observer will guide you through all the different aspects of advanced driving and help you in your progression towards the Advanced Test. The observer will set targets and suggest which aspects of your driving require further work on before your next drive.

Note: A vast proportion of preparing for the Advanced Test is achieved by reading the book that is provided when you join as an associate "How to be an Advanced Driver", together with a great deal of practise and determination on your part.

Step 4:

During your preparation for the Advanced Test you will attend two associate training evenings, which are designed specifically to help you progress towards test standard.

Step 5:

Once our observers consider you are ready to take the test, you'll have a "mock test" and then, all being well, you'll apply for and take the actual Advanced Test.

Step 6:

If you are successful in the Advanced Test, then as well as becoming a member of the IAM you can now also become a Full Member of the Lichfield Group and help us in our work to promote improved driving standards.

You may also enroll on one of our 'Qualified Observer' courses, which will train you to become an observer for the Group.

Membership of both the 'Institute of Advanced Motorists' and 'Lichfield Advanced Motorists & Motorcyclists' Group will bring with it many benefits.
